I’ve Been Worse than Invisible...

I was the top salesperson in my company for nearly 4 years,. I also trained all the employees that came after me, and new ALL the stock in a 10,000 Sqft showroom. At first it was okay. I thought I was new and had to prove myself. But, even after proving myself, I was NEVER considered for management. I was only invited to go along to events and meetings with clients and management because my boss found me, ‘insanely attractive,’ (I found out later). I would be invited to be there, almost like ornamentation: included as long as ‘serious business,’ wasn’t discussed, and promptly invisible when actual business was discussed. My boss introduced me as if I was something fancy he bought from an exotic market. Worse yet, he never appreciated my hard work, my intelligence, or the fact that I was a professional. I was slow to realize this. I later found out that everyone just assumed he was sleeping with me, and ‘envied’ him. He did not stop the rumor mill. Obviously, when the full picture became apparent to me (which was slowly, because I was on my feet and working like a dog about 60 hours a week) I resigned.
