Career

I’m looking for a job, but I’m not experienced.

I want to do something that helps others in any way, I want to love what I do. I want to start a career. Where do I start looking?

Helping people can mean many different things so you may consider what 'help' looks like for you. Who do you enjoy helping and how? Starting to narrow down your target type of help and person you'd like to support can identify desired industries and roles. Bus drivers, nurses, customer service reps and financial advisors all help, but the work is very different. Next, I think it is helpful to start to chat with people who have jobs that are of interest to you. You'll learn what they like and do not like, learn about their career paths and start to establish a strong network. Finally, you probably have more experience than you think. Consider school projects, study, activities, etc. Experience goes beyond paid work, as many people are mentioning here. Wishing you a successful search!

Volunteering is definitely a great way to get experience and reach out to your networks! Post on LinkedIn or Facebook to see if anyone you know has an opportunity where you can get involved.

It can definitely be tough to build up experience as a student. I, too, remember it being hard. Have you tried volunteering or applying for internships (either during school breaks or while you are in school)?

I have done some canvasing for some candidates at home. I am taking a trip that is related to my home business soon.

A really great way to gain experience is by volunteering for something you'd like to end up working for! It'll also help you find out if you really passionate about it.

You're invited.
