I am in my senior year in college, on track to officially graduate this summer of 2021 with my bachelors and with my masters summer of 2022, both in public administration.
I am about to start this mentorship program my school is offering through Braven, and I was paired with a mentor and I having a virtual meeting with today and I am very nervous! I want to know how to best optimize on this mentorship, be a great mentee, and assure that my mentor is helping me the way I need. What do I do?

Hi Rhiana! First off, congrats on taking this big step in your career + putting yourself out there. Here's a great article on Fairygodboss on this topic: https://fairygodboss.com/articles/7-tips-to-actually-mentor-and-be-mentored-instead-of-just-trading-emails

Also, do you think your mentor can help you get a job in your field? That's important context

Agreed. You'll need to know the difference between coach vs mentor vs sponsor. A coach helps you practice & improve at specific tasks. A mentor helps you strategize to accomplish your overall goals. A sponsor helps you get hired.
So if you have a mentor... you just need to know what your goal is, communicate/follow-up on a regular basis, and do the things you tell your mentor that you'll do. That's all it takes to be a good mentee :)
