I leverage data and systems to deliver results.

He invested the time to train me, and when I didn't deliver something in the way he expected, he simply explained clearly how to change it so it would meet expectations. No blame, no shame. Just instructions and trust that I'd make the changes.

I encountered my favorite boss in 1984 and I never forgot him. He was tough, occasionally irrational, hyper. And he was funny as hell, saw the irony in the job and in life. And he respected us and valued our opinions. He also let us leave 20 minutes early on bowling nights and covered us to the big bosses. He was a treasure!

The valuable feedback, I have loved almost every boss I have had. Because when I honestly told them I am open to feedback whether postive or negative and strive to change, we have always been on equal terms

My best boss set clear expectations for my role and black and white standards of measurement. He scheduled 30-minute one-on-ones every two weeks to discuss my projects, the department, and regularly asked whether I was maintaining a good home/work life balance. About once a quarter, he would touch base on the status of any goals/education we agreed to in our annual performance reviews. That way, there was never any question about how the annual performance review would go as we had already discussed it throughout the year. In addition, he did “fly by’s” on a regular basis to see how we were doing and whether we had any questions or needed any help. This was for a team of twelve. Wow, now I really miss him again.

My boss is great at giving recognition and tons of feedback. If I only received compliments about how I’m doing all of the time I could never grow so I really appreciate constructive feedback on how to improve.

He was respectful. I was the only woman in a men's construction department, working on large projects with international team players. My boss requested, respected and asked for my input as much or more than he did anyone. My males co-workers in my company and all other firms we worked with, followed his lead. I will always be grateful to him for that. I could just be myself and my job. I didn't have prove myself any more than the next person and I definitely did not have to deal with sexual harrassment.

That's amazing to hear especially in an environment where it sounds like women were probably outnumbered and it could have easily been different.
