Question

My job closed due to the pandemic and now I'm on unemployed. I worked for an non-profit and who knows when we'll reopen. Sometimes I feel useless not working.  I've been looking for close to 9 months for another job.

I understand the heart, and frustration, that comes from working in financially fragile non-profits. Try looking for a volunteer gig that matches your interests. Serve others, gain new skills, NETWORK...which is a great way to find a job anyway. Good luck!

'Feeling useless' when not working isn't uncommon. But remember your worth goes way beyond what you do for work and reconnecting with yourself can help you reframe this way of believing.  You may enjoy working, but you're useful in other ways. Spend some time finding those and rediscovering yourself while you are searching for your 'next.'

I agree with Kristen, networking is the absolute best way to get a job. Take time to reach out to old colleagues, curate your LInkedIn so it is as strong as possible, define your personal brand story and set up virtual coffees. This will all help you feel like you are useful.  Best of luck!
