Background check

being unsuitable for a clearance is one thing but not knowing the reason why is another. What is the best approach of seeking why you cannot be cleared? Any tips and advice are welcomed

Every time I have had a background check, I received the report after. Can you ask for your report? They might not tell you exactly what was the issue, but you will likely be able to guess when you read through. There may be an error that you need to address.

Employment verification, education and licenses, criminal record, identity, motor vehicle record and drug use are all incorporated into the background. check. The employer, not the third-party consumer reporting agency decides what to do with the information they have. I'm with LadyPele, I don't think it'd hurt to request documentation.

Background checks cover more and more the higher security you are trying to obtain. When I joined my company last year, because of the industry my background check included criminal records search, identify and work status validation, credit report, education and licensing validation, and driving records review. They didn’t perform reference checks (family, neighbors, friends) or social media accounts, but other companies or government agencies require them. You can request documentation on why you failed the clearance or you just go ahead and hire a background check to be run on yourself and see what they come up with.
