Extra part-time job

I took a significant pay cut stepping in to my current role (upwards of $40k) to take a role I knew would help my career. I know this was not ideal but do not regret it, as it helped me get to the city and further enthralled in the industry I wanted. Given the pay cut, I'm strongly considering a second way to make money remotely or that does not conflict too much with a 9-6pm job. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance!

I work an additional 15-20 hours per week with the census currently. Flexible hours and decent pay.

If you can learn to day trade successfully you can make two or three hundred a week in just a couple hours a day.

I did this when my husband was unemployed, and the "side job" not only kept us from running into serious financial trouble but it also really helped me with moving forward in my career by giving me experience I couldn't get in my main job. The only warning I'd give is to echo Focused; give yourself time to recharge because it can be exhausting.

First, I would like to say - WOW!!!! What you are doing is risky and I commend you for taking a long range view to improve your situation. This is something that shows great leadership potential! When I was short on funds in the past, I looked at where I was most of the time and sought short term jobs based on that. For instance, retail during the holiday season and working at Weight Watchers. One piece of advice, make sure you review your company's employee guide about second jobs. Some frown on it and others are more accommodating. In one instance, I had to let my supervisor know and at another, as long as the job was weekends only, there was no need to notify. Also, make sure to carve little bits of 'me time' out. Working 7 days a week is exhausting if you don't have some little breaks. In my case, stress over finances caused loss of sleep. Because my goals were short term I was able to muscle through but it was tough! Good Luck!

Driving for Lyft can be quite lucrative depending on where you live. The gig economy in general (i.e. Lyft, GrubHub, Postmates, Drizzly, etc) is an easy way to work when you can/want to and make money. If you're not into that, depending on your skillset and any potential non-compete terms, you may be able to offer consulting services. Additionally, you could take advantage of paid speaking opportunities or guest lecturing. Are you creative? Maybe an Etsy shop or if you happen to be a songwriter, you could look into selling your music (or ghost writing if you want to remain anonymous). I also know some people who make decent money freelance writing. Hopefully this is helpful!

It depends on the time commitment you have/want. If you take a job like bartending/waitering, you can make really good $ with tips just a few nights of week if you pick the right place. That said, if your job is already pretty people friendly, it may overwhelm you to have to do that in your off time too. If that's the case, you could try hotel night desk, or some type of quiet job where you could possibly also make money freelance writing while it's quiet, or doing clickwork (like through Amazon MTurk), etc. You could also tutor English online.
