Go-To Mental Health Tips During Stressful Times

I have a dedicated daily gratitude practice. No matter what, I list three things I'm grateful for every morning and every night. I would love to hear other actionable tips you have for staying positive and keeping a healthy mindset. Especially given the hourly news updates I have started to wonder how people are handling the stress and staying calm amongst the storm.

Today I decided to create a schedule of personal accomplishments that aren't work related. Talk to this friend, donate to this charity (food pantry!), take a walk outside, do the laundry, etc. It's a great way to stay active, feel positive and keep myself accountable!

Wonderful beginning and end to your day to write gratitude lists! That act in and of itself is a good and grounding reminder to everyone to keep things in perspective. Taking timeouts throughout your day to focus on your breathing patterns can be really helpful, too! When we are anxious, stressed, or on edge, we tense up- our muscles tense up- and we take short, shallow breaths or even hold our breath without realizing it. The next thing you know your shoulders are up by your ears or hunched over because we feel like we have to protect ourselves which trigger physical aches and pains! If you can pause to take nice, steady, deep breaths... you will notice its calming effect. Many health and wellness sites are also offering yoga flows, guided meditations, podcast episodes, & the like that assist in our stress management. We are so lucky to have these resources! Check out www.yogajournal.com, @theyogishowpodcast on Instagram (they have a free 21-day meditation challenge going right now), or search “breathwork meditation” on YouTube (my fave way to feel better!) Good luck & stay grateful! :-)

I think it's important that we have some type of faith and hope during this time. It is not going to last forever and your faith in God is an absolutely beautiful way to remind you who is actually in charge here. I love it!

As they say, "mental health is just as important as physical health." I also practice a gratitude ritual. Furthermore, my faith in God sustains me. I pray, read the Bible, meditate, listen to music, and strive to keep things in proper perspective by limiting my news intake. I intentionally read, write and reflect on topics of resilience and well-being. Focusing on what I can do and control makes all the difference. I trust this too shall pass. Peace + Wellness, SP

I meditate throughout the day and repeat positive affirmations mentally or out loud (out loud is best, and you can throw in a dance move for emphasis). I've deleted all the news apps and stopped watching it on TV. Somebody I know is sure to be up to date on things, so I'm informed. If there's a state or world emergency, I'll know. A side note type thing I've noticed is ending my relationship with certain types of horror, or even just super gore packed flicks and certain YouTube channels has helped me in maintaining positive, too.

I’ve turned off the alerts on my news and social media apps. It allows me to choose what I’m seeing and when I’m seeing it. And my phone is less disruptive because I have less alerts.
