Experience level vs. role/title when it comes to compensation

One of my hesitations in changing careers (something I have been thinking about doing for a couple years now) is that my new role after I change industries will take on a less senior title. I don't actually care about the title so much as I assume it means that a more junior title will lead to less pay. But that makes me think of the equal pay question -- should people be paid based on their level of experience or their role/title? Or should it be a combination of the two things? If there's anyone in HR in this community, what do you think I should be thinking about when it comes to getting paid the right amount?

I know a lot of women who don't care about their title if they know they're getting great experience. I also know a lot of women who would take a large pay-cut in exchange for an advanced title. I think this depends on what's more important to you! A combination of the two is a great angle before making a decision.
