Can I afford this corona fight?

I'm apart of the 3+ million who just lost my job due to the coronavirus pandemic. I'm forecasting my finances and realized that in two months, I'll have to start to rely on emergency savings to get through this known period of time.   How can I, among others, be very smart about spending my money? I know I need to be ruthless with my discretionary expenses but am overwhelmed as to how to begin. I wanted to ask this question because I know there are many people out there like me. So really, any and all advice is much appreciated and hope you are all well and safe!

I'm so sorry to hear that you have lost your job, this is a trying time and I wish you the best. One of the benefits to staying home during this pandemic is that you will spend less by default. Gas/commuter expenses are immediately eliminated (or greatly decreased), as is dine out. This is a rough time, but lenders are really doing a lot to help. For example, I have Allstate for my insurance and just signed up for a premium decrease that they are offering since I'm hardly driving right now. I'd reach out to every account and see what can be done. Good luck! We are in this together :-)

Look at what you have and see if you can trade. It's time to use those Oregon Trail skills. Can you make masks, and trade a few for a bag of groceries? Do you have any skills or items you could trade for those intangibles?

I always advice people to start looking at the subscriptions you have. Cancel any non-necessary ones. If you have 3 or 4 streaming services then try to take it to 1 that gives you more of what you need. Then look at credit card consolidations with a low to 0% interest rate. Also call your debt companies as a lot of them are offering deferments or grace periods.

Also what do u have kicking around u can part with? Even a 25.00 resale item can be a lot in groceries if u really need it! Even tho we are not in dire straits I have already gone through my jewelry box and a few other goodies as a just in case

Oh No! Not flowers! Yes to everything else. This is well-thought out- thank you for posting. But eliminate flowers? Not in this lifetime! I will eat beans and rice every day to have my flowers. (And I have.)
