New favorite book!!!

So I am reading a new book called “Do Less” by Kate Northrup and it’s changing my life and how I look at productivity as well as work/life balance. I HIGHLY recommend this book. On the cover it says “for busy moms” and I have to say that I’m glad that didn’t stop me from buying it since I am not a mom. Whether you are a mom or not, anybody could relate to the material. Topics include (but are not limited to) *how our culture is obsessed with productivity but not creativity *how the patriarchy has created a work structure that does not make the most of our time as women, and how we could recreate it *syncing your creative process to the moon and/or your menstrual cycle (this blew my mind) *why we should constantly seek easier ways to do things that still get us the same results #sanity *how 80% of your results come from 20% of your work, and how to maximize your efforts by focusing mostly on what moves the needle *why we are exhausted all the f-ing time *how a linear, rather than cyclical, perception of time adds to our stress and how to change your mindset around this *why we suck at asking for help and why we should make a constant practice of it *so much more!!! It’s a quick read, too. Only 230 pages and I have flown through it in two weeks regardless of not having much more that 15-20 minutes per day to read (if that). Treat yourself to this book!!!!

Very interesting recommendation, Mary-beth! The bulleted list was a nice appetizer for garnering interest--thank you for taking the time to write them. Here are the three mentions that are hooking me from your recommendation: *syncing your creative process to the moon and/or your menstrual cycle (this blew my mind) *why we should constantly seek easier ways to do things that still get us the same results #sanity *how 80% of your results come from 20% of your work, and how to maximize your efforts by focusing mostly on what moves the needle

Thanks for the recommendation. I just started “You Are A Badass How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living An Awesome Life” by Jen Sincero. My favorite piece of wisdom from her so far is that angry people are living in the past, anxious people are living in the future and we need to live in the present. I just loved this!

Ah, Melanie, you are so right-on with Sincero; she has a great sense of humor. I listened to "You Are a Badass" on audiobook a couple of years back and reading your comment reminded me that I should probably brush up on the concepts. Here's a nice little list someone took the time to write about the major points in the book https://marloyonocruz.com/2017/12/30/book-notes-you-are-a-badass/ Thank you for reminding me!

Interesting! I'm finishing "The More of Less," which is on physical minimalism, and this seems a natural follow up. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the recommendation! Her mother, Dr Christiane Northrup, is a pioneer OB/GYN in holistic health treatments (meaning she treats not only organs and the body, but also the mind and the spirit). She's been teaching women about how the moon cycles sync with our creative energy and our periods for decades now. Very interesting that her daughter is also teaching that now. Dr Northrup has a fantastic book called "Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom" where she talks about that in depth.

I have never heard of this concept but you can bet I'm quite intrigued right about now! I just checked and my library has a copy. Sweet! Thank you for this, Renata.
