Perimenopause cycle issues

I’m 49 and reasonably certain I’m In perimenopause and/or early stage menopause. Over the last 2 years, my normal, 28 day cycle has begun to shorten and shorten. Now I’m cycling at about 12-14 days. I only get a little over a week of “freedom” before another cycle starts. This sucks! I am well past wanting kids, so my cycle is pure annoyance. Are there menopause therapies that help with the frequent / irregular cycle? I asked my doc last year but my she wasn’t too helpful. I may need a new doc. ?

Not to be the voice of doom, but we all go through this and come out on the other side. I learned to enjoy the hot flashes. Ride them like a wave. You're not there yet, but you will be. Definitely find a doc, PA, or holistic medical practitioner who you can trust so you aren't wandering alone in the wilderness. There are lots of online resources. The Period Tracker app sounds useful.

Agreed. There are irritating moments in the short term, but it's SO much better on the other side. I found it effective to find things to laugh about, especially with another woman about my age. It's puberty in reverse!

Perimenopause lasts, on average, four years but for some women may last as long as ten years or more. Symptoms vary widely, from migraines to anxiety to joint pain to hot flashes. There are several wonderful groups online where you can find information, but yes, get a new ob/gyn! Also it can be helpful to track your period and any other symptoms. The mySysters app helps you see patterns in symptoms and you can print out a report either for yourself or your doctor. We shouldn't have to do this on our own!

I've been tracking my periods using the app PeriodTracker since 2008. :) That's one way I know EXACTLY how my cycle has changed over time. Thankfully, I'm not really experiencing other issues that I've noticed.

I am there too. I also can't seem to find a good gyn/ob to 'listen' as I too have issues that I would like to be educated on. I do not know my family history at all, so I do not have much to go by. I do not even have paternal family females to talk to either. (they all have passed away, and were not on good terms to talk). So I am on my own to figure me out, lol.

You totally need a new doc! Get a hormone test to see where you're at. Sometimes they give you bc to even things out.

You're invited.
