Using LinkedIN Connections when you don't know them
I am job searching and always check the company to see who I know that works there, over the years I have built around 700 contacts, I would say 80% are people I know well enough to not think twice about sending a message to, but I just realized I have no idea how I became connected with someone at a particular company (in the same industry segment that I am in ). Is it still appropriate to reach out and if so, what do I say? "Hi Bob, we are connections and I am hoping you will help me get my foot in the door even though I don't really know you?" ;) In this case Bob is the managing regional director and I suspect might be the hiring manager but it's a big international company so who knows.
