In honor of National Teachers Day...

It's no secret that teachers deserve more appreciation. From elementary school to higher education, who was your favorite teacher and how did he/she make the biggest impact? I'll start: In high school, one of my English Honors teachers shaped my career in a way I didn't even realize mattered at the time. Journalism and general creative writing has become a huge part of my career and I'll always have this specific teacher to thank for inspiring me to pursue this career path further. I've since written her a thank you note to let her know how impactful her teaching has been over the years and I highly encourage others to do the same! Alright FGB'ers, your turn! Who was your favorite teacher and how did he/she make the biggest impact?

Sophomore business comms in undergrad. My professor put us through the gauntlet during a case competition, but it was the first time I had to test my resolve and deal with constructive criticism. I learned so much about myself during that semester; I owe him a great deal of gratitude.

My favorite teacher was my 8th grade math teacher. We still keep in touch today and caught up recently over Facebook. She was such a positive and supportive person in my life during 'those awkward years', and I'm forever grateful for her!

1. History teacher (cross country coach) stressed the importance of enjoying running over winning competitions and turned many of her kids into lifelong runners 2. Physics teacher did a lot of life lessons, not just of the physics kind, hoping that his students left his classes aspiring to not just be better students, but also better people 3. Math teacher (and Math Counts teacher) - her lessons have always stuck with me and I do my best to never get too rusty at fast math 4. Economics / civics teacher - highly educated teacher who could have done anything but worked hard to get his classes of apathetic high schoolers to think critically about their worldviews 5. Oh, I could keep going on. There are so many more. I'm grateful for all the lessons my teachers taught me.

Love this! I have three teachers who have really made an impact on me: 1. My high school journalism teacher 2. My college journalism professor and newspaper adviser 3. My college campaigns and elections professor. I never would have pursued any of the career opportunities (including this one!) I've had without their support and guidance (and many letters of recommendation). I try to keep in touch with them and randomly ran into my college J-school professor in NYC during Thanksgiving a few years ago! Teachers are the best!
