Best 5 tips every beginning writer should know

Are you familiar with that rewarding feeling whenever you expose your heart to words? Do you impulsively take a pen and paper and fill it with the thoughts that overflow in your mind? These are just a few of the signs that you are destined for a writing career. But where to start? Here are 5 tips every beginning writer should know. 1. If you want to be a writer, start writing. It seems redundant, but it is surprising how many people do not do this because they believe they need to learn theory before venturing into practice. The opposite is much more productive. Write first. Understand why you are not satisfied with the result. Only then look for techniques that can help you improve. 2. Endurance is part of the creative process. The blank page is a challenge for every writer, even for the most experienced. It is natural that you make up millions of excuses every day for not writing. The good news is that you gradually learn to deal with this anxiety inherent in every creative process. 3. An original style of writing comes from constant practice. If you just started to venture out with words, focus on mastering basic skills. Learn to find original ideas, structure your stories, express your ideas with clarity and consistency. at some companies like Samedaypapers for example. Do not worry about style for now. You will develop it intuitively from constant practice. 4. Consume compulsively what you want to write. Want to write period romances? Read millions of period romances. Want to write epic fantasy? Buy all books of the genre that your money allows. Decide who your favorite writers are, which ones you loathed most, and try to understand why good ones are good and bad ones are bad. 5. You need perspective. Many ideas only make sense inside your head. Whenever possible, submit your texts for the evaluation of someone whose work or opinion you respect. But remember that you are the only person capable of judging how each comment may or may not help you achieve the results you want.

The keys to being a better writer involve: 1) Reading more (i.e., NY Times, Wall Street Journal, Dense books, etc.) 2) To Actually write more - start a blog or contribute to blogs and force yourself to write daily and/or weekly 3) Review your work and see how you can improve your work 4) Be Patient - It takes time to improve your craft 5) Enjoy the Process - if you love writing then you have to love the process as well! Happy Holidays :)

I definitely struggle with looking at a blank page. Writers block is the worst.

I’m a journalist and this list is spot on. I’d say #4 is my favorite because you really do need to embrace the topic you want to write about to help successfully create your own.
