Now that most of us are doubly or triply engaged with screens in our day-to-day, what is your antidote? What do you do to get away from your screen when you've signed off for the day (or hour, or minute...)?
With a new year approaching and no end in sight for my new work-from-home life, I'm looking for some new rituals to introduce in 2021. Thanks for sharing in advance!

Starting the day reading an actual book or newspaper... the rest of the day is mediated by screens so starting the day with a physical book is a great way to use your brain and eyes in a different way!

Definitely reading and not reading social media posts on your phone, but books. Frankly, reading keeps me sane and is my relaxing time. For book suggestions, you could start with getting recommendations from places like Reese Witherspoon Book Club or Pure Wow Book Club or Our Shared Shelf- all these book clubs have pages on Instagram and GoodReads! Also, if you are on Instagram, follow the hashtags like #bookstagram or #booklovers, for more book recommendations in almost any genre.

I make it a point to take a short walk every day, mid-day. Some (most?) days it's raining, but still a great way to take a break. While I'm walking I try to look at what's around me -- the cars, the view, whether or not I can see the mountains. I really try to be present in my walk and not thinking about my last Zoom meeting. This is not something I used to do before the pandemic, but it is imperative now.

Before I go to work in the mornings, I take a run. I read my bible in the mornings. After I get off from work, I take a ride for around 30 min, then come back home. It helps to transition from work mode to home mode, plus you get that 30 min away from technology.

I try to journal each morning or night. I also try to schedule a 30 min walk in the middle of my day and leave my phone inside. It took me while not to freak out about not answering, but at some point you need a break.

I read an actual physical book on my lunch break and I try not to look at my phone much - I even disabled most of the notifications so that I have to consciously check Slack, Teams, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

I try and do something with my hands while listening to music (crochet, embroidery, etc) or go for a walk.

I do a lot of the things already mentioned here, sometimes if I know it's an overwhelming week though- I may pick one day to be 'reading day', one day is 'craft day', etc. to help cut down on things to do. Or, I may make one off screen hobby the theme of that week- so all week the time set is for reading or crafting etc.
I do highly recommend a walk, some short drive, or even sitting in the car (might be my introversion here) 30min. It really does help me to switch from work mode to off, and now that I've been job searching I use it to switch from the work of job searching to being done for the day. Hang in there! :)

I like to make time for lunch with my kids when they have their home week from school. I block my calendar to align my lunch with theirs and we eat screen free
