What type of influencer are you?

I love to take those quizzes on facebook, you know the ones that tell you what type of Dog you are or what type of friend! I took one today that asked what type of influencer are you (and yes it did ask for me to purchase something at the end but I didn't) but what I found really interesting was the results. It said I am a go getter, at first I was like, cool! That totally describes me, but then it went on to say why that may not be the best thing! You see I tend to focus on the solution and not really worry about the problem. Sounds good right? I mean get stuff done!! But what I might be missing is that people want to be part of the solution AND more importantly have the problem acknowledged. This was feedback I got from my boss recently. I made a mistake and he said he wasn't so worried about the error but that I instead of acknowledging the problem, I just went into solver mode. Making the client feel like I didn't take the problem seriously. While I felt I had taken the problem seriously, I mean why not I fixed it right? I hadn't acknowledged the issue. A bit of an eye opener for me for sure! So my question to all of you, is what type of influencer are you? Are you like me? A get it done or do you prefer to learn about the problem and work to solve it?

My friend did a quiz similar to this on instagram but it was tailored more to 'what character are you ?' I got 'you're a main character in life'. I realised immediately just how true this was, and it made me reflect on my life and my current mindset. I struggle with mental health. I have a lack of freedom as a result of growing up in a strict family. I tend to do what others want just to please them, regardless of my desires. Sometimes I feel like I can barely breathe. Her simple message made me think, 'Do you know what? I am me. I am my own person. I have a brain, and I will use it to suit ME. I don't want to spend my life pretending to be someone i'm not, or hiding away from reality.' Honestly, this was a game changer. This was another reason as to why i'm trying to focus on my career path, so I can create my life and fly these wings that I was given. I suppose the last part of that sentence is why Little Mix are my guilty pleasure.

I like your description of this. I can see how being a "go-getter" and getting things done can make someone else feel a little rushed because there's not much time to process the problem. I couldn't find a similar quiz, but the one I found seemed interesting as well. I used "What type of problem solver are you?" (http://www.stopguessingbook.com/quiz) with the following results. "Problem-solving often goes awry because people are running around without direction: guessing, getting buried in data, and generally wasting time. You know that solving hard problems means using structure to take methodical steps from beginning to end. Your Top Behaviors: -Know What Problem You're Solving -Stay on Target" While I think this is mostly accurate, I also can get lost in the setting up the structure without moving forward. A lot of times, I'm checking in with people. "How are you feeling about this? Do you have any suggestions to contribute?" Having worked with go-getters before, I certainly appreciate that type of personality in a group.

Jen, that is really interesting and THANK You for sharing!! I am going to take your quiz! I do believe there is room for both, but I know for me personally I need to slow down and help the customer understand that I see their issue and that while I am going to resolve it I am also going to own it!!

Per your question - Are you a get it done or do you prefer to learn about the problem and work to solve it? - I lean both ways depending on the task. If I don't have enough information, I need to learn more about the problem, goals, gather analysts (if available, etc. If it's task I have done before or fairly straight forward, I move forward to solve it. In this case, I still will ask for the goals and outcome. In either case, it doesn't hurt to ask to know more or to verify what you need to complete something.

OH I am a total get it done! I mean why should I care about the problem (OK that was total sarcasm lol) but this I am finding is my issue as I progress in my career, owning the issue and then working to solve it is sometimes a better solution
