In other words, quantify your achievements in previous roles using metrics relevant to advertising sales. For example, "Increased new client acquisition by 20% within the first year." Don’t forget to tailor your resume. You must showcase the advertising-specific skills within each job description, even if it wasn't an advertising role.
As you continue job searching, be sure to target the right opportunities. Do this by networking strategically. For example, attend industry events or join online advertising communities. Connect with recruiters specializing in advertising sales. Also, focus on growing companies. Startups or growing agencies might be more open to experienced talent, especially for building a strong foundation.
To address the "overqualified" feedback, make sure you adjust your resume and cover letter to match the specific requirements of each job description. If I were you, I wouldn’t be so concerned about ageism…. Being in your late forties is not considered so old; it’s just considered “experienced”. It’s a question of personal perspective. Next, look for companies with a focus on diversity and inclusion in their hiring practices. Age discrimination is illegal, and these companies might be more receptive to experienced professionals.
All that said, consider alternative options within advertising like advertising technology (AdTech). Explore opportunities in programmatic advertising, ad buying platforms, or marketing automation. Leverage your sales experience within the tech sector. Another alternative could be media buying/selling. Check specific media channels (TV, radio, digital) and showcase your negotiation and client relationship management skills.
And we should not neglect other opportunities beyond advertising…. A good option could be sales training. Consider becoming a sales trainer and leverage your experience to coach others in the advertising industry.
Remember this: While starting a business might not be the preferred choice, consider freelancing your advertising skills on a project basis.

I would NOT recommend putting a pictures on LinkedIn. People are nosey (men are "visual" creatures) and could reverse search your image to find you in "fun-filled" pictures that have been posted by you, your co-workers, family, friends, etc... to hold them against you. I personally do NOT post pictures online as you can't control what other people do with or perceive them.

This is excellent advice! I would add to avoid talking about "15 years of experience" or "seasoned professional" or other phrases that age us. Agree with focusing on skills and quantifiable "wins".
Experience older than 10 years is considered obsolete - if you want to include jobs on your resume that are beyond the 10 year mark because they are relevant to your job search, there's no need to go into detail with bullet points. List them in a section titled "Additional Experience" or "Relevant Experience", Listing the name of the company and your title only.
