I am an active member in 2 industry groups, one of which is the administrative body that handles my professional certification. I find both networking and industry knowledge to be huge with both of these groups and I am in a supporting role at my company with no peers who have similar responsibility. We are currently in a spending freeze, only the most critical spending can be approved, all training, memberships, travel, office supplies etc. are prohibited. The prospect of layoffs loom.
Organization A is paid through next September but Organization B is due by Jan 1 and has a renewal fee of $2500. That is a lot of money for me to pay personally especially with the concern about layoffs. On the flipside, this group is great for networking which I need as I look for a new job and industry related learning, especially around COVID safety. This is not the organization that manages my credentials but I attend online learning and networking functions weekly and I am an active committee member in our local chapter's education committee.
Should I put this on a credit card and hope for for the best? My husband and I are struggling with the decision so close to the holidays but it would be essential to me finding a new job.
