I am a well-connected high performer who is super friendly but horrendously undervalued, what should I do?
I love my current company and mission. I've worked here for years and moved up and around departments. I can confidently say that because I am passionate about my work, I always strive to deliver high results and do. However, my current manager horrendously under values me, I move mountains for this lady and make things seamless for her. But it's not even considered, seen or heard. Recently, I had a review, and the feedback on it showcased the symptoms of someone who produced a last-minute submission without barely any thought. It was a slap to the face; the session only lasted 20 minutes... and she was late. Not to mention that the merit increase was embarrassing. I know it's time to go, but the company's policy is to wait 1 year for internal mobility unless promoted. I've not hit that year yet, I have 4 months to go. I've had several conversations with this manager about what I can improve. She has said nothing. All is good...
What would you do? Jump ship to another organization and get treated and compensated appropriately for the work you are producing or wait until the 4 months are up and move internally? Any other advise would be welcomed! I am just at cross roads. I'm working my gears to hear radio silence.

If you’re unhappy then start updating your resume and looking and applying to other jobs. There is no simple “jump ship” to another company these days. No matter how talented you are it takes months to find a new job - that’s the reality out there. The new job market is absolutely brutal and most companies do not hire around the holidays. Also since you say you’ve been at this company for years - you must have a previous manager that can help give some guidance or get info for you on how best to push forward in this role. And maybe promotions are not guaranteed anymore given the current state of the world. Also I would be grateful for any merit increase. I know numerous companies that cannot afford to do even cost of living raises yearly. I’m not saying it’s right - but a raise is a raise. I don’t know what industry you’re in, but no companies in my industry (regardless of talent and work) are giving raises so maybe just do research before you “jump ship” to see the reality of what other companies can offer you.

If you are unhappy and your manager is giving you mixed messages, then look. It can easily take 4 months to find a new job! Why wait? Do you know a shinier, happier job is on the far side of that 1-year-mark? Look—- create more options for yourself. If you get a job offer, you do not have to accept it. I echo the “it never hurts to look” comment.
