Do your parents know what 'freelance" means?

I've been WFH and a freelance content writer for 12 yrs, but after multiple explanations, my parents STILL don't know what I do. They think I'm unemployed (no), "unable to work" (no), and I'm a "drifter" (no). Any advice on a simple, respectful response besides, "No , I'm not a prostitute." [I seriously said that] Thx!

Have you tried saying that you run your content creation business? And while I have you, what content do you write (or industries do you focus on, if you have a focus) ? I have a startup that launching soon and I need some articles written, perhaps I can hire you :). Ping me and we can chat.

They get lost on the word "content" and wonder why I'm not in an office , like they did. I write a lot of different content - advertising/marketing, nonprofits, a green startup, B2B pharma, real estate, and my own stuff (reiki and baking). I'll def ping you - and thank u!

Ah yes, you are right, content means something to us but get's lost to non-insiders. I'm looking forward to speaking with you!

Maybe make a point of sharing some of your work. Is any of your content public where you can share it? Has it backed up a project that is publicly viewable (i.e. a website or video)? Seeing concrete examples of what you do might make it make more sense for them.
