Experience with applying for a similar position with a company you previously had a job offer with and turned down to low salary?

I feel I made a mistake by turning down a job offer with a great company earlier (pre pandemic) this year due to a low salary offer, which they were set on. I really liked the people I interviewed with and would be working with them, and is close to home. It's also a very stable company and has been around about 40 years. I received another job offer with another company, and the salary was closer to what I was looking for. Shortly after I started working there, it was changed to a contract job, the Pandemic hit, and I was laid off due to this. I've stayed in touch with the recruiter from the company in which I turned down the job offer. I really would like to work with them, and saw a position posted which I would be a great fit for. My question is,do you think they would seriously consider me for the position if I apply? Would really appreciate the feedback. Thank you! .pany

I would definitely apply and sounds like you didn't burn any bridges previously. My only thought is: are you really willing to settle on the salary because you need something now? I've been in the position where I've taken a pay cut despite really wanting the job, but it comes with some negative impacts. Assume you've already thought through this but wanted to bring up just in case.

Pursue the opportunity. If you get an interview and they ask about your weaknesses or a time you made a mistake tell about the decision to go with the other company, and that you regret accepting the offer earlier and hope to move forward.

You rarely get something you don't ask for. 2020 has seen so many changes, they'll likely be understanding that your situation has changed. Are you willing to go for their lower pay? Maybe the benefits offset it?

Thank you, have had a lot of time to reflect on what's important to me and put things into perspective.

As someone who actively recruits and hires for my company, you should definitely go for it but be prepared for a few different scenerios depending how the company's process works. 1. They say no 2. They may give you an opportunity but they may interview you more rigorously 3. Be prepared to answer exactly why this company is now a good fit when it was not previously. And note (this may come out harsh but its not meant to be) the answer cannot be "well the job I picked did not work out". That will send red flags as being a second choice pick. Be prepared with solid answers of why you feel this company is now a better choice and your plans to stay there and grow Either way, you won't know until you try!

This would be a missed opportunity for you if you didn't reach out to the recruiter and apply! The worst that they can say is no. Recruiters understand that people turn down jobs due to not being able to come to an agreement about money, and I don't believe that that take that personally. They would do the same thing themselves. Reach back out and mention that you would love the opportunity to interview again as this is a great company that you haven't forgotten about and are still very interested in. Be confident!

I agree with all the previous advice. The company wanted you before, which is a great sign. Be open and honest with the recruiter. Good luck!

Definitely apply! The worst thing they can say is no. The best thing they can say is 'you're hired' - but only if you give them the chance by applying. Go for it!

Yes, apply! Yes, reach out to the others to express your interest. I have been in your shoes but twice turned down positions that were offered. I expressed interest a 3rd time, was invited to interview, offered the job, and been with my current boss for over a year now. I regret not taking the offer the first time but am sitting in a good place with a great boss and team.

I would reach out to the recruiter you worked with and try again. Everyone understands how turbulent things are with the economy and pandemic...they will understand why you are no longer with that other company. And finding good hires is really hard. They already found you earlier...saves them time in the hiring process!

Absolutely! The fact that you WANT to be there is significant. Sounds like this may be a better role for you anyway.

Thank you, that's what I'm hoping for. I also have the names of the people I interviewed with, should I reach out to them as well to let them know I'm still very interested?

I would start with just the recruiter.
