I have been interviewing with companies (both small local and big business) to find a better fit for my career goals. In a handful of cases, HR has sent me a link to take a "personality-type" test. I always receive the results at the end and am not really blown away with any new knowledge.
This week I took an assessment and I was surprised by the results. It was a new one and I was not sure what they were even looking for in a candidate. When the recruiter called to schedule my next interview, I asked him about the assessment results and if they lined up with company culture and goals of the position. He laughed and said that he is not sure, he has to do some research since I am the first person to be hired for a new dept and they are not sure what to look for. I appreciated his openness.
My question is, do companies really use the self assessment results in hiring? What do you look for in the results? Can you tell if someone did not answer honestly?
