What is an expensive purse to you?

How much do you spend on handbags? $100? $1,000? Or $25-$50?Where do you draw the line and why?

I typically spend anywhere from $200-250 for a new bag, although, I haven't purchased one in a couple years. I like certain brands and designs with better quality to avoid having to buy multiple in a short period of time. The most expensive one I've purchased in the past has been $1250. I had a discount and multiple gift cards so it was not as bad as it seems. Definitely an investment!

•What is an expensive purse to you?• $5,000+ •How much do you spend on handbags? Where do you draw the line and why?• I don’t draw the line but usually I’m not impressed enough to rationalize a large purchase. Example: Alexander Wang had a glow in the dark collection spring 2013. It’s rare/different/exciting/appeals to me and years later there are still not similar items for sale. So, if Wang released it again for $750 yes I would buy it. But for the most part I don’t buy bags often and I only pay full price if I love it. Example: my wallet was $75, I later found the matching purse on sale $60.

I've been careful about my selections and picked classic outlines over the zannier prints Kate Spade offers.

Prior to having a baby, I LOVED purses. My most expensive was a giant Burberry tote but my favorite brand was Kate Spade. I was obsessed with their canvas tote bags, they would last forever and held so much stuff. We’re also huge Disney people and I love the Dooney and Bourke Disney Parks prints too. Unfortunately, my collection of purses is just collecting dust now because I’m usually carting around a diaper bag and use that as a purse too :(

This is definitely an anonymous post because of what I am going to say but here goes. This is not a “judgement free zone” as I’ve noticed from comments on posts from FGB’ers. My average purse is between $150-$300. I consider an expensive purse to be $800 or more. I would pay that for a purse and have been eying a Tori Burch purse for more than 4 months now that costs $850. I keep reminding myself I am up for a bonus this year and to treat myself. If I had the money I would spend it on a classic Channel purse (those things are gorgeous) but cost vs. use keeps getting in my way. I would only carry it on special occasions so can’t stomach spending several thousand on the purse for 1-2 nights a year.

I'll join you in your love for purses! I LOVE purses - LOVE. Unlike clothes and shoes, they always fit. :) I have five purses that cost over $200. Two were gifts from my husband, two were on sale, and one was just too gorgeous to pass up and was a limited edition, so I paid full price ($385) for it. The rest of my purses all cost anywhere from $15.00 to $150.00. I change purses a few times a week so I use the heck out of them. The pricier the bag, the better they wear and the longer they last, in my experience.

Some rich people will only buy things like that from Goodwill or somewhere cheap because they’re trying to save and invest their money in big things that are going to bring them long-term instead of short term gain. Long term money over short term gain

I'm not really into purses all that much, so I have three that have served me for the past year plus. A Fossil hobo in magenta leather, a black leather Fossil work tote, and a small Kate Spade crossbody. These fit all of my needs, and they are durable.

Those are all really good brands that make quality bags.

Like shoes, I think it’s important to invest in at least 1 good bag. Especially if you are in a position where you are either visiting clients, meeting with execs, or making presentations. It really depends on what you do. When I started getting higher paying roles and more visibility, I made it a point to get a sleek black Tumi bag that was both a backpack and converted to a clean, vertical laptop bag. It looks like an expensive bag and doubles as a purse and fits everything I need. Tumi has a lifetime guarantee which means they will replace or repair your bag for free, forever. It was about $400. I asked friends and family for the holidays to chip in, so it didn’t kill my budget. I’ve had it for years, it still looks new, and I always get compliments on the design. I firmly believe it is always a great investment to look professional. You can’t take back that first impression.

I started buying quality items that would last a long time over cheaper items that don't withstand the years. Since I made that decision, I've focused on the quality of shoes and handbags. My limit is 150 dollars, but I also only own Kate Spade bags, and I only buy them during the twice yearly sale they host.

They are made with thick quality leather and last for years. I haven't killed one yet. And I'm also a Professor, so I'm constantly shoving weird things into it and traveling from classroom to classroom. They are high quality for sure. Also, I suggest going to the website and signing up for emails. They actually have a sale going on right now. Here's an example of their ongoing sale: https://surprise.katespade.com/098687404129.html?utm_campaign=pla_ecomm_surprise_gg_br_us_en_bags_x_shopping&utm_term=PRODUCT_GROUP&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0YaVnKe-5wIVCZezCh0UEgoSEAQYASABEgJKQPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds also, sorry the link doesn't work. just copy and paste

May I ask are kate spade bags as rugged as they look? I have always wanted one (but I have been sorely disappointed by some other higher end labels). I am in and out of vehicles ALOT, do sidework of all sorts of things like alterations into yard work and mechanical. That means sometimes just eww and tools are going in my bags

I used to sell handbags and can tell you there is a major difference in quality and materials that go into the $30 bag versus the $100+ bags. At $30 the bags fall apart, I would see the same people coming in to replace their bags over and over. Any of the higher end bags offer warranties for the lifetime of their bags and will repair or replace the bag if the strap breaks, hardware breaks or tarnishes or it wears unevenly. Now for you i would say to look for an all weather leather bag with “feet”. The all weather leather is tough and will hold up in conditions and wear extremely well. The “feet” are brass and will keep the bag from hitting the ground and scuffing up the bag. A bag like this will cost $120 and up depending on size and you can find them at Dooney & Bourke, Kate Spade, Marc Jacobs, Coach. They can be stiff bags so shop around until you find one you like.
