Fannypacks...Let's Discuss...

Ok, I recently read an article that stated "fannypacks are here to stay". I am NOT here for this style- I was not in the 90s and I am not now. Does anyone actually enjoy these? I associate them with Atlantic City & Disney World. Am I alone on this?

I’m a fan! I prefer to think of it as a belted purse; large enough for my sunglasses and iPhone 8. Instant ease holding my cocktail when I’m networking and it keeps me always ready to get on the dance floor. I found a GORGEOUS metallic rose gold leather belted purse at Anthropologie and I’m always on the hunt at Nordstrom and small specialty boutiques. I say give it a chance and liberate your arms. When women’s jackets are consistently made with inside pockets, as men’s are, you won’t need to take a purse as often.

A belted purse is exactly right! I love mine. I can’t be dealing with straps and 2 toddler boys.

And dog walking! You need to be hands free yet able to carry the essentials. Love the fanny pack! They have gorgeous one and ugly ones...just like purses.

Alright, I hear you all about fanny packs being a bit "touristy", but have you all ever seen Jammy Packs?! Check them out...they are truly the best thing ever (yes, I have one). https://www.jammypack.com/collections/fanny-packs-jammypack

That makes sense, the outdoor festivals and biking/hiking! I never thought about that!

One of my guy friends brought fanny packs before they were even back. I swear. But in all seriousness, I'm HERE for it. It's not for me in terms of fashion walking down the streets of Manhattan, but when I'm biking or at music shows (I wear them under flowy dresses) its necessary. There are some great companies that make ones that lie more flat against you that fit a phone, some lipstick, and $$$ perfectly.

You wear them under dresses? Hahaha. I used to wear them in high school (class of 03) back when it would get you made fun of. That's commitment. Now that they are back I don't want to wear them anymore.

I'm not into the style myself, but I have a friend who is a freelance photographer for whom it is wildly convenient. Since she has to carry around masses of camera equipment, being able to maintain all her non-work necessities like keys, wallet, money, etc. without having to sling another strap on her shoulder is just the better option. She's even collected several different styles, colors, etc. for different events and needs and has enough to match with a variety of outfits. Maybe I just lack the dedication, and that's why I could never get into it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I think this is a lot like the long acrylic nails conversation from a bit back - a lot of people don't like it, but there is nothing wrong with or for those who do. As long as someone doesn't tackle you down to the ground and strap a pack around your waste, it really doesn't matter. It doesn't hurt anyone, after all. I'm all about the idea of "don't yuck someone else's yum," in all aspects of life. No harm, no foul.

Meaning-the original fannypack usage in the 90s. Very Golden Girls on the slot machines at AC! Maybe because my grandmother was one of them!

The only time I rock fanny packs are for 90s parties and outdoor concerts. They're really helpful for converts and not having to drag a giant purse around. And I feel like it's socially acceptable.
