personal life + work

I am facing some pretty tough stuff in my personal life and I am wondering whether I should share anything with my boss. My instinct is not to, but I am worried that what's going on outside of work is affecting my work (I don't think it really is, but I'm just kind of paranoid about it). I do often feel kind of distracted at work and would appreciate taking a personal day or two.. Has anyone dealt with this in the past? I'm not sure what the right thing to do is...

Personally, if you have a good relationship with your your boss I would address it in a private 1 on 1 conversation. I had a similar situation with my father being diagnosed with cancer, and some other terrible things going on with my physical and mental health. My boss was more than understanding and was able to help me feel positive about my work, give me encouragement, and it felt good to have her check in on me every couple of days.
