Definitely working out! I also bought a subscription to Headspace, so I've been adding that in as well.

If things get too stressful and I can feel my blood pressure rising I get up and walk away and go for a short brisk walk. This helps clear my head. Then I come back and plug my headphones in and find music that will continue to help clear my mind. Sometimes it's upbeat music sometimes I find spa/zen music to help relax me. I use Accuradio.com but I know many will use Iheartradio or Spotify.

These days, I feel like I need a brisk walk everyday! I wish I worked in a space where I could wear my headphones. I recently got earbuds so maybe I can just one in my ear and leave the other out. Thanks for the suggestion. I also find that my stress levels skyrocket depending on what's going on in the news. I'm trying to limit my news intake but it's hard.

I stopped listening/watching the news. It was so depressing. Everything they talk about lately is negative or depressing. So I put a stop to that real quick. I changed the channel in our little cafe too. It was on CNN and I found it to be nothing but negative information. So I changed it to a more local regional channel that gave just highlights of what was happening in the region. I find my life is much less stressful without the news. If something is going on that is of real importance someone will talk about it or I will get emergency text. Try to walk away from it.

Yes, that was me. I don't watch the news but I will listen to political podcast and read articles. It's really the articles I'm obsessed with. But I didn't correlate my mood to it until recently. I'm limiting myself as much as possible but I still want to be informed.

I mostly try to relax when I get home. Depending on what I’m dealing with and the timing I usually take vacation time.

I actually recently took two days off. It was so good just to get away for a few days.

I destress by cooking up a storm! I hate the clean up after but when I create something while listening to upbeat music I am in my zone. Plus my kids get dinner so all wins!

Oh... cooking is a good one! I do enjoy whipping up a nice meal. What's you're favorite dish to make?

When I can, when I get home from work, I take 15-20 minutes where I unplug and sit in total silence - whether that means sitting outside (weather permitting) or even laying in bed.

I like in the Northeast and I can't wait for a nice day to sit outside in Central Park!

Work out! A walk, run, class, yoga or even 20 minutes on the elliptical takes the focus from work onto yourself. Meditation is also great. I have become a fan of headspace.

I really do need to get back to working out. It's just been so hard! I tell myself I'm going and then I don't. Every month I see my dollars fly out my bank account. And I'll look into headspace, I've seen it promoted a few times on Twitter.

Remember that self-care is not selfish. Take time for yourself - at least 15 minutes per day for meditation, deep breathing, relaxation, music, nap or quiet time. Just like in the air, put your own mask on first. From B is for Balance, 12 Steps by Sharon Weinstein

Thank you for the book suggestion. I'm adding it to my list of books and it's cheap too! :)

I work at a Catholic Jesuit school. While I don't agree with everything the Catholic Church supports, the Jesuits do a practice called the Daily Examen. Its a reflective prayer. I do it as a reflection, not a prayer and find it really helps me center myself. Also, I try to assume the best in everyone I work with. That coworker didn't say that snippy comment because she was mad at me, she said it because she'd had a frustrating day> My staff didn't intentionally break that rule, they just had a rough time following it. It helps some!

I usually try to not take things personal as I know others have bad days too. However, I agree that it's important to maybe just take a deep breath and reflect. Dwelling on that bad feeling won't make things any better.
