Going for my first wax

Any words of wisdom to help me prepare? And is it really as painful as everyone says?

Pain level depends on where you're getting waxed, and your personal hair thickness and pain tolerance. I used to be an esthetician, and some people are very quick and easy to wax, and other have more deeply rooted hair that is tougher to remove. As others have said, you can take ibuprofen about a half hour before to help. The skill of the waxer also matters. If you're having a sensitive area like your bikini line done, ask if they use hard wax or soft wax. Hard wax is gentler on the skin, and good for small, sensitive areas. Soft wax is better for larger areas like the legs. And don't forget to breathe!

If the person you are going to does not have something, I have this amazing product that you can put on after a waxing and it can take away the sting and the redness and inflammation not long after you have the waxing done. I can always send you a sample if you would be interested.

Take ibuprofen and breathe. You'll forget the pain after it's done!

If your going to a good service provider - it shouldn't be too bad. The first time is the worst and as long as you stay on a regular waxing schedule it's NOTHING :) Before going into the corporate world, I was an estheticianist. I did a LOT of waxing (mostly Brazilian waxes). Trust me when I say if you have a provider who knows what she is doing - you're all good! Just breath, don't hold your breath and take an ibuprofen before if you are worried (don't drink lots of coffee in advance - it amps up your nerves :) )

Book every 3-4 weeks to start. If you wait until you are 'full bush' every time :) it will be like it's the first time over and over again. You want to get the next wax before it's full in. Depending on how much hair you have, I would start with 3-4 weeks and go from there. You will be able to push it back once you have gone a few times. This is just to get the hairs before they are super long and thick again. After a couple of appointments, you will notice a huge difference. I also recommend PREBOOKING! Life gets busy and we forget and by the time we remember..... well, it's too late :)

While it all depends what you're waxing (as others have said), a professional waxer will typically apply product for the sting either before or after the waxing. Definitely recommend focusing on your breathing-- it's literally ripping the band-aid off! Ibuprofen can help, as can wearing loose-fitting clothes if you're going for the more sensitive or intimate areas. Don't tense up or stress, just try to relax and know you'll be just fine!

It should only take 15 minutes or so give or take...the anticipation the first time is what gets you! It’s fine, it will be over before you know it!

When I got my first one, the beautician (who was really rude, might I add) did it in 15 minutes. She didn't stop for breathers once, and honestly did kind of a bad job. So I would guess 15-25 min for a quality session

Just breathe through it - it'll be over soon. First few times are painful, but you'll get used to it over time.

But very gently! You don't want to aggravate the skin before.
