I recently made a hire that I'm now regretting.

I'm a new manager, and in the past year I've had to hire a few people for the first time. I'm having doubts about the most recent person I hired. What should I do? I really don't think he's right for the job, but I'm not sure how much to try to make it work....or if that's just prolonging the inevitable. I realize that some of this is on me so I'm feeling super guilty.

I don't think you should feel guilty even though its an understandable feeling. Hiring mistakes are how you learn as a manager about how to hire better in the future. Have you given him feedback about his performance? Part of the hardest thing a manager has to do is train their people to come up to the standards of performance or behaviors you expect. Very few people walk in the door at that level just naturally.
