Change of Industry

Hi, after being a stay at home mom for the past decade, I would like to get certified in A+ and Network + and venture into the IT profession. I am just not clear how to get a job without the experience even if I should manage to get the certifications. Anyone who can help?

One way to get the experience is to seek out internships. Check with the organization that you worked with to obtain your certifications. Do some networking - hold informational interviews (do NOT ask for a job in these - you are finding out what the field is like and getting recommendations of what you should be doing to be successful) with people in the field. Find out if there are professional organizations you can / should join.

Ok, I'm a little fuzzy on exactly what you would be doing but networking (with people) is going to be your friend here. Also look for small businesses in your area and see if you can help them. Easier to break in to work that way, if you don't mind being self employed. If you want to be an employee, is still start looking at smaller companies that could provide some mentorship. But keep in mind you may have to wear many hats in a small business so prepare to be flexible. When we are hiring I look for people who I can work with. I can teach people the skills to do the job (if there willing and interested) not I can't teach them to be ethical, engaged or enthusiastic.

Ack! Sorry for the typos in the email above! Sent it before I proofread it closely enough!
