Congress should pass a bill that the government can't be shut down over the house and senates lack of ability to agree on anything. Workers not getting paid and congress getting paid while not doing there job.

It truly makes it an unfair system.

Our metro area of 300k has a base and an annual household income of 98k. Every fall during the budget crisis, the federal employees work long days. Its crazy here every Sept. I wish Congress had paychecks furloughed as well. Then maybe something would be done. I am disappointed it continues.

I said this same thing today. If they were impacted like everyone else, this would be resolved much faster.

The worst part is the attempted destruction of our democracy. About 14% of the federal budget is employee salaries; each US taxpayer should lower their taxes by 14%. The trickle-down consequences of places with a large government population are enormous; those affected should be able to file a claim when it all ends, just like they do against companies after an oil spill. With millions in claims and a 14% smaller budget, perhaps the World's Greatest Negotiator can man up and pay them out of his hotel kick-backs.

It's not the first shut down and won't be the last. Clients keep asking how it will impact them...all I can say is that you may get your tax return late and don't count on food stamps for February.

The uncertainty of everything! Should I search for a new job? Wait it out? I applied for unemployment, but DC is expensive and it barely pays my portion of the rent. The other bad part is the isolation, because you don't want to go out and spend any money unless you have to.

Do you love your current job? If not, I have a feeling we may be having more of these down the line so if you don't maybe you do explore looking for new jobs?

Four out of ten fed workers are contracted and will not receive back pay. It's absolutely outrageous this is happening and for so long. What private employer do you know that could demand their employees work without pay? I understand there's already one lawsuit in the works and I hope many more follow.

Thank you for sharing this. I actually did not realize that so many people were contractors and would not get paid.

Private employers are funded through their own means, so of course they can't demand employees to work without pay. It's easy to forget that every government job is dependent on individual workers or businesses paying their taxes and then politicians actually working together to get their job done. I would like to see everyone in the Congress and the Senate have their paycheck and benefits stopped when a budget isn't passed.
