I accidentally lied on my resume

I’m in my 4th interview round and realized my start date for my last job is incorrect. The year should be 2016-2019 vs. 2015-2019. Should I address this within my final interview? Should I let it slide? Not sure what to do here… What would you do?

I strongly recommend contacting the recruiter you have been working with to point out the error. If it is possible to share an updated resume and/or application, do so. If you do not clarify the date now, it would look like an intentional lie later on. This information could be used against you now in the hiring process or worse yet, down the road once you have been hired. No one wants to be fired for lying on an application.

A good potential employer is more concerned about your ability to do the job and fitin then they should be about what date you started your last job. If you feel it's important to clear it up, tell them you realized after the fact that there was a typo.

I would be up front about it. Apologize profusely and say you had no intention of misrepresenting yourself. You don’t want to start out with a new company knowing this happened-if you tell them it’s just a mistake. If they find it, it could be construed as a lie. If they aren’t gracious about an honest mistake, it wouldn’t be a good company to join.

Don't mention it. It is an error without consequence and it is just a loss of time to mention it. Also, do not let that inconsequential error prevents you from being concentrated on the task at hand of getting the job you want.

I would bring an updated resume and state the error. We have thrown out resumes in the background check for incorrect dates and things like that and you would hate for a typo to cause that problem! It shows you have humility and respect honesty.

I wouldn't worry too much. I've interviewed people with this sort of typo on CVs,and I've never held it against them. It happens. Give the recruiter a call and point it out, if it comes up in the interview, correct it, apologise and move on :) I really would not rule someone out for one typo....

As a Career Counselor and Resume Writer, even I make typos on my resume. It's not often, but my most recent and most profitable contract to date was landed with a resume that mispelled the company's name. We're only human, and it's not like you overexaggerated by many years. I still think it's 2016 sometimes and I'm still alive :) I wouldn't bring it up until an offer is made.

If they point it out after reading their crystal ball then say typo mistake No one is perfect . And you said it it was an accident. Not intentional . Bring the new correct one with you to interview Good luck .

Take a corrected resume with you. Be upfront and state to them that upon review of your resume, you realized that there was an error and state what it was. Sometimes the best solution is the simplest solution.
