Caring for elderly parent but need remote/pt work now

I'm stressing so much. My mom has dementia and I need to drive to take care of her at least twice or once a week. I've been studying for my real estate license but can't afford to take the exam yet. I've been looking for transaction work but no good leads. I so need a remote job asap so I can also afford to relocate my mom near me. Should I take any job that comes or stay focus on the RE industry?

This conversation is very similar to those looking for PT/Flex work to meet child care demands. I would add a word of caution that having a PT/Flex job and moving closer to your mom would not alleviate all your stress as any work is still work that would interfere with any care demands. My advice would be to start building a care network where your mom lives and be open and willing to ask (and pay!) for help when you need it. Caregiving takes a toll and you need to remember to take care of yourself mentally and physically as well.

Great idea Susan! LaJarie, also check out The Mom Project - they help caregivers come back into the workforce after having been out for a time. I think your question is 'any job versus staying in RE?' . Only you know how critical timing is. All of us have probably taken jobs we didn't fit well for at one point so we can pay bills, and you know what? Sometimes, those jobs work out and grow into something good. Your most important decision is your mom, and you already made that decision. Your second most decision is 'remote or on premise' and you made that too. You are making good decisions. Trust yourself, you will get to the right thing. You've got this. :)

I feel your pain as I helped take care of my elderly in-laws who were struggling with dementia. I'm confident you can find remote work - I see you listed yourself as a virtual assistant and I'm sure this is in great need. I did a quick search and found this... Zirtual. Zirtual is actually a company that connects virtual assistants with clients who need help with various different tasks, Check them out!
