I've been at my current company 7 weeks. I was hired to as HR/Finance, but mainly I've been processing payroll, entering new hires or removing terminations from the system, and processing invoices. The position is more of a dumping position and isn't anything like what we discussed during the interview or what was listed in the job description. To make matters worst, we having an acting manager, and the previous person in my position left in a huff and there's months of invoices and other tasks that weren't completed, so I'm backed up and drowning. All of this has me pretty frustrated and burned out in a short amount of time.
There is one dept manager here who has been harassing one of her employees (won't allow her to take her lunch break, but forcing her to clock out for breaks anyway, not allowing her to sit in the staff room if she does grant her a break, timing how long she's in the rest room, scheduling her for work and then changing the posted work schedule) and I've witnessed her doing these things in action. The employee came to me to ask me what she can do and to ask administration to intervene. I have also overheard and witnessed this manager's behavior and it is hostile and unacceptable. I have had other managers come to me and report it as well, and I was told by another dept manager (who was here prior to me starting w/ the company) that this particular manager was friends w/ the previous Executive Director and that they both were working together to force the employee to resign because they have another friend that they wanted to put in the position.
I don't like to see people mistreated, and I have an obligation as the HR officer for this company (even if it's more of a title than actual job functionality) to do something. I have tried to talk to this manager about her relationship w/ the employee and haven't gotten a straight story. I've spoken to the acting executive about it without any resolution. Not sure what to do here.
