Anyone else think "Employee if the month" and other public shout outs are demoralizing?

It just gives another way for the friends of managers as well as thoes who are loud and attention seeking to gain further praise. Never goes to those who are unrecognized and really deserve it.

I think the managers should be wise to know who’s actually hard working, and who’s just loud and drawing attention. If they aren’t, maybe it’s not worth it to work there.

This is such a hard issue. By definition, calling anyone out is leaving certain people out. However, the intention behind these programs is good and meant to recognize behavior that companies and managers and employers want to encourage. That said, I do think you're probably right that there are all these unintentional consequences....
