In the middle of a pandemic pregnancy

I’ve reached 2nd trimester and couldn’t be more excited! My husband and I get to share some good news to close friends and family — which seriously helps lighten the mood during this time. I’ve had 4 doctors cancel on me for checkups and because I live in a coronavirus hotspot, doctors outside of the city won’t see me unless I quarantine away from our home for 4-6 weeks. I’m also canceling my baby shower and I’m not sure the next time I’ll see family (as we’re self-quarantining and they live in different states). But really, other than these hiccups, we couldn’t be happier. It’s definitely an unforgettable time and we’re making the most of it. FGB moms, I’m looking for pregnancy and first-time mom tips! How should I prepare during these uncertain times and what was your favorite part of pregnancy? I’d love to hear it all!

Hi fellow fairyGB and mama2be, I just hit week 16 and live in Manhattan, a coronavirus hotspot... I am so frustrated for you that you have not been able to lock down a DR appointment. As for your baby shower... Organize a ZOOM or Google Hangout? Don't cancel that baby registry :) I am due end of Sept :)

Congratulations! I’m 23 weeks pregnant with my second. I’ve had to delay appointments and my husband wasn’t allowed to attend any sonos either which was sad so I can relate to what you’re going through. For new mama advice, make sure you prioritize your postpartum care. It’s so easy to get swept up in the sleepless newborn days. I ordered a giant box of perineal cold packs on amazon and they were THE BEST. If you’re going the disposable route, you can never have too many boxes of baby wipes. Our first outgrew diapers at weird rates so we didn’t benefit from a diaper stockpile but you will use baby wipes for everything. If you’re opting for cloth, I suggest trying a few brands to see what works best for you. We did cloth diapers and disposables and I feel like we tried almost every kind on the market so if you have questions about either let me know!

Oh wow! Congrats! It's a perfect time to hunker down and "nest" for baby. ;-) I agree with @M Elizabeth -- stock up on different sizes of diapers and wipes so you'll always have some. Also, you can register for all of your baby gifts online using Amazon and Babies R Us. Ask your best mom friends to send you a list of their most important first year needs. Rely on them to be your guide since you likely can't go into a store right now. Best of luck and enjoy this pregnancy despite the weird world we're living in.

That's a great idea. Target is a good option too. When you set up your registries look for the free sample packs that some vendors send or provide after you set up a registry or purchase a certain number of items on the registry. It's a nice way to try different brands of diapers, bottles, nipple cream, etc. When I was pregnant last year, Target, Walmart, and Amazon all offered them.

Congratulations! I agree that you should connect with care any way you can, virtual appts are possible if not ideal. I hope that mid-wives and/or other practitioners are making efforts to see patients. I remember best sharing the first kicks and movement with my partner. Do video's to send to family/friends that allows you to share updates. I wish you the best!

Congratulations! Stock up on diapers and wipes as you find them if you're using disposables. According to the mom groups I'm in, they're getting hard to find and get them in a couple sizes because I swear diapers (& clothes) go from fitting just right to way too small overnight.

I'm sorry that your pregnancy won't have the typical outcome but I'm glad you're doing well! I love the zoom shower idea! You should still be able to enjoy time with your friends and family leading up to the event.

Do a zoom shower -- much fun can be had! Get a teledoc appointment if you can -- better than not being seen.

I second this! Gifts can be shipped and quarantined easily to arrive in advance of the shower and opened safely during the scheduled time.
