Rejected For A Position Based On My Past Salary, not Experience
I recently interviewed for an Account Manager position, which at my previous employer the same role would have been a slight promotion. When asked about my salary requirement, I shared what my 2018 W-2 said and was told, "The role is too junior for your salary. Are you relocatable since you worked mostly in the Financial Industry?" I never held an Account Manager role, but am more than capable. In fact, the only thing that AMs did where I worked that was distinctively different was that they managed the contract. That's it. I want to move AWAY from the Financial industry and this was a role in the Tech industry, focusing on small markets. What else could I have said or done? Thoughts?
