Oddly enough, there are apps for this. :D You can set the apps you spend too much time on to lock you out after a set amount of time per day. That definitely helps me!

This is hard but I take a break from all screens except for my work screen(laptop) one day a week. The only time I'm on my phone is for a call. After a few weeks you'll enjoy it so much that you'll start craving the unplugged day of your choice. I honestly just had had enough and made the decision one day and never looked back.

I have been turning my phone face down on my desk for the first few hours I'm at work. On weekends, I try to stay off it as much as possible. Sometimes, I'll even go run errands without it, just to get a little mental break.

Yes, at least you can avoid notifications that keep dropping in every hour.

Once a year I go on a trip without my phone- it's there for emergencies, but I stick it in a bag and ignore it. It's heavenly. Now when I'm at home I leave it plugged in or in my purse, which also solves the "where's my phone?" problem. When we move out of this tiny apartment, my partner and I are going to have one room where the computers live with the router, and the rest of the house where we live. We're software engineers, so screen time is inevitable, but when computers are work it's a lot easier (mentally) to unplug the rest of the time. I'm home, I'm done with screens!

I started wearing a watch again after many years of not doing so to cut back on looking at my phone. Additionally when I am at home I leave the phone on a shelf and not on the table. We are all addicted to our devices. The sooner we admit it then we can change our habits and teach our children the same!

I question this every day. Too many screens and technology around me! I need to go on a yoga retreat or something to completely disconnect and regroup.

This helps but you can't stay away for long. Isn't it?

Yes it’s definitely not a long-term fix but more of a reset mentality.

During the workday, I turn my phone screen down and ringer off for as many meetings as I possibly can. At home on weekends or during important family events, I literally leave my phone off the table, off my body and in a different room if possible. For example, I no longer sleep with the phone next to me and I swear that its improved my shut-eye quality.

More books and less phone! I also refuse to purchase a kindle because I already have too many screens to look at in my life.

I support this message!!! I actually wrote a paper on this in college. There will always be a place in my heart for traditional books.

This is kind of an interesting approach but a friend of mine rearranged her living room to not make the TV the focal point. I think it's was kind of clever.
