I'm a survivor of workplace harassment. I was wrongfully terminated for reporting it, and filed a claim against my former employer. Some time has passed and I am eager to work again for a company with better values. I've done a lot of soul searching over the years and I've decided that it's time. Additionally, I've been successfully freelancing during this period.
The trouble is: I am continually having successful interviews, and then I am suddenly "ghosted" by the hiring manager. I have also been referred in by friends (who work as senior professionals) where I first receive a warm reception and then more ghosting. It is clear to me that I've been pegged some sort of "troublemaker". I don't know how HR and/or the hiring manager is able to receive case information as nothing comes up in a simple Google search under my name.
Has anyone else been through this? How did you change the narrative?
HR folks: How can I investigate what is happening so I can mitigate effects? Are there specific tools used in the "pre-screening" phase where my court documents would be found? To be clear: I don't want additional legal problems, but I would like to make things right. Any advice on how to position myself despite these unfortunate circumstances would be welcome.
