Did you have a 529 plan to help pay for college in the US?

Some interesting changes to these tax-advantage accounts were put into effect at the end of the year. The money can now be used for trade schools and apprenticeship programs or to pay off a student loan. I'm curious how many people had family members set aside money for college as they were growing up?

NOPE. I was in a terrible boat for college. Fortunately I worked my tail off in high school and got a full-ride to undergrad; my former company paid for half of my master's degree. Also, I'm just trying to spread the word about this because I feel like folks think a 529 plan is the only way to save for college. 8 ways to save for college: 529, custodial 529, UGMA/UTMA, Coverdell ESA, zero coupon bond, savings bond, personal investment, and Roth IRA. The biggies here are evaluating the impacts from taxes and EFC on FAFSA (expected family contribution.) At least half of these don’t need to be used for education exclusively

I didn't have one for my own education, but started one for my daughter. Every little bit helps and money grows over time!
