No Regrets

Regret is a funny thing. By definition, you can't do anything to change an event that already happened, no matter how much you regret it. The piece below argues that defaulting too often to "perceived certainty" when making decisions has an unseen cost: regret. The author has a brilliant idea I certainly plan on trying: "Imagine what might happen if you took a risk and failed. Could you live with that outcome?" In other words: what's the worst that can happen, and is that "worst" thing that bad? For young people in college, that might mean trying out for your school's radio station, or becoming an officer of an organization, or even just going for lunch with kids you just met. What's the worst that can happen? For a new grad looking for work, this might mean to take a job with a cool company .... in a city where you don't know anyone. What's the worst that can happen? For those starting a new job, this philosophy might translate to volunteering to be part of a new project even though you just started.
