I currently manage a team where everyone looks the same. I have a new headcount open and I'm working with our recruiters to source diverse candidates, but this process is lengthy and my leadership wanted me to hire someone yesterday.
I've made the business case why we need to take the time to source diverse candidates, but they said I have a pile of qualified people in our database and that I shouldn't pass on them. Every day this req is not filled is a day the company is losing money and the other employees are carrying the extra workload.
I want to take the time to change the culture of the team and the way we see candidates, but I also can't have my boss breathing down my neck every day and asking me to just hire one of the qualified candidates who applied (and who looks like everyone else on the team). Has anyone experienced this before? What did you do?
