Casual Dress Days

Hello my friends, Question what you all are doing when there is a designated casual dress day? A good rule of thumb has always been dress for the job that you want not the job you have... but what about casual dress day. Do you dress casually or wear your normal work attire? A few of my mangers will dress casual and others dress business as usual; so I cannot read the office culture.

At my office, it depends on whether you have any outside meetings. If you do, then continue with business casual. Otherwise, nice jeans with your normal tops.

Thank you for your thoughts on management. I usually take the lead from them, but with casual Friday, they were spilt 50/50.

I think that if you are in management, you should be wearing the same thing you wear Mon-Th, on Friday. I also think that you should be prepared to send your employees home if they are not properly dressed on casual day. It is always safer, especially until you see what the different levels of employees wear, to skip casual day, until you know where you fit in.

If your normal office attire is Business Casual or Business Formal, I think of casual Fridays as your normal outfit but with Jeans instead. I also second the cardigan in place of a blazer for dresses or slacks outfits. It depends on your comfort level, but this is also a chance to show more of your personal style.

I really appreciate your feedback. With the competiveness of the office culture, it is nice to have an unbiased opinion.

Casual at work should always be a step above casual outside of work. Think jeans with a nice blouse and flats. Or a summer dress with a cardigan and nicer sandals.

Thank you Nikki, I really like the idea of a cardigan.
