Golden Handcuffs

I'd like to leave my job but I actually make decent pay that's hard to part with. And the open positions I've applied to just don't pay that much. I know my minimum but how do I mentally and emotionally part with a comfortable salary? My well being is very important to me (hence why I want to leave) but bills need to be paid, too. Any advise?

If your current situation is affecting your mental health, then it isn't worth the money. You can find little ways in your day-to-day life to make up for the income lost if it's minor, but I would also use industry standards and your current salary to negotiate with potential employers.

As long as you're not afraid to negotiate you can definitely find the same salary you currently make (or even more!). FGB has some great articles on how to negotiate your salary when starting a new job. Also look at the benefits the companies offer which may add value to the offer. For example if the company offers to cover your transportation costs that could be an extra $100/month of added value.

Negotiate on salary where you can/feel comfortable!

I have the same struggle. Only you know how long you can last in your current position without affecting your mental health and happiness. Don’t wait until you are really burnt out because it will cause you to carry baggage into your new job. Your career is not always a straight climb up but a jungle gym. Make a smart choice, and the lower pay will be less of a sacrifice.
