I've always been a warm and welcoming person to new employees and trying to make them feel welcome. The company I work for has a great culture overall, but my team is so awkward that it's painful sometimes.
My immediate teammates are nice enough but so short and make it feel like it's a chore to even get to know someone. We had a team lunch recently trying to welcome the new intern, and barely anyone spoke or asked him questions. I tried my best to get him to speak but no one else seemed to do so. It ends up looking like everyone is too busy. I think this trickles down from our immediate manager as she doesn't tend to attend these types of lunches or events.
Thoughts on how to make this less awkward and more fun for everyone?
