In our firm (and for our clients) we administer profiling tests to determine team members conative strengths (ie. their intuitive abilities versus the skills they are trained in which may or may not be the way they naturally problem solve). From the results, we can determine if people are the right fit for the role as well as how compatible they are – or how likely they are to clash – with colleagues, plus, how to manage any potential conflict from arising. It's an amazing (and enlightening) process to go through. The big a-ha: Sometimes difficult people are not difficult – they just think and problem solve differently to us. Once we fully get them and they get us, it can make for much smoother sailing because we are no longer speaking different languages.

I had lunch this afternoon with a career coach who uses the 'Circle of Conflict' method. I found a good explanation in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufnCXK275kk
