Would you let your kids go trick-or-treating without supervision?

A friend of mine, whose kids are 8 (a girl) and 10 (a boy), just shared with me that she's letting her kids trick-or-treat on their own this year. They live in a nice, suburban area outside of Pittsburgh, and the kids aren't allowed to leave the neighborhood. I was pretty surprised by this, though... our parents may have done this as kids, sure, but wasn't that a different era? Anyway, it got me thinking. Do any of your kids go trick-or-treating without adult supervision, or would you let them try it??

I trick-or-treated in the 60s, and we went in groups. Even then, I think there was always one of our parents keeping an eye on us. That was in Queens, NYC.

I think it would depend on the definition of "on their own." If it was just two kids under the age of 12, no, I would not. But if they are joining a larger group, which I am going to assume will include parents or older siblings, then yes, I would. But only after creating some strong exceptions and agreements.

Not a chance. Not anymore. It’s different from when we were kids. Or maybe now we just know better. Either way that’s a hard pass for me & mine. Adult supervision required.
