Diversity & Inclusion

I was told I was a diversity hire and now I'm questioning everything

Last month I had a meeting with my boss and his boss to talk about my future within the company. I was really excited until I heard that they were really happy they hired me because I'm female and they wanted a female engineer - which actually put a dent in my self esteem. Now I keep wondering if my gender vs. qualifications got me the job.

I worked/interned in some companies where I was one of two or three women in a tech team of size 50 and 100. I had never been told that i had been a diversity hire, but still, sometimes I felt insecure that I was only hired because of my gender and often, I was worried that other people thought this about me. But I kinda grew out of it as time went on because 1) I realized that my work is good and other coworkers see it too, 2) a company won't hire an unqualified person because she is a woman! and finally, 3) a lot of men probably get hired more easily than women just because of their gender.. ;)
