Addressing the lower-tier

I don't see any articles or help for those of us in minimum-wage jobs. We're not all high-powered executives or middle management. My job in hospitality is as important as a retail clerk's, waitress's, cashier's, housekeeper's, or a middle management's job.

Burning desire to make the working world better

I hear you! My brother is a GM in the hospitality business, so I've heard some of his stories and when I saw your post, I went looking to find out how digital platforms have the potential to reshape the way work is done, how workers find work, and even who gets the work in this industry. I'm going to keep looking into this, but here's what I've found and wanted to share with you...https://www.pymnts.com/gig-economy/2019/instawork-hospitality-gig-workers/ Being prepared for changes is the first step to being successful in any industry/field. I think there's always jobs in hospitality and plenty of flexibility and mobility that office jobs do not offer. There are degrees in Hospitality, which are helpful to get management positions in retail, hotels, travel and restaurants. It's a big field and all the experience you're getting is valuable.

You are absolutely right - all work is important and has value! No matter what we do, we're all out there trying to support ourselves/our families! There are a lot of articles on here that don't necessarily apply to me or my situation; however, I try to read as much as I can so I use the information and apply it to my role.

I'm going to echo BostonG here and ask what article topics do you think would be helpful/empowering? I'm one of the editors of the site and we're always looking to write for our audience. We have a few articles in the categories you mentioned (like https://fairygodboss.com/career-topics/retail-jobs, http://fairygodboss.com/career-topics/how-to-become-a-bartender and https://fairygodboss.com/career-topics/housekeeper-resume) but not many (yet!).

I would disagree regarding the content. I’ve seen a lot of information about women starting out in their careers or making a change. I’m assuming that you aren’t looking to stay in a minimum wage position, so I think it’s important to look for content that’s relative to your situation. I see your point regarding blog posts. However a lot of them are based on popular threads. If you have a specific question, ask! That’s what the community is for!

I agree. When I first joined, I was excited to see a large group of women gathered to empower each other. Instead what I found was that most things I read are tailored to those who are already successful in their fields. Maybe there is some member-written content that is relevant to us, but the blogs and articles that come to my email seem less helpful/empowering and more discouraging to be honest. That being said, I also agree with BostonG. We could take some initiative and add some related content ourselves. I'm going to start sharing the things that I find that might help other people like us. Maybe others who see this can do the same.

What sort of topics would be helpful? I have found a lot of the content of this site is written by members, if there is something you would like to offer, this is a great platform to get it out there!
