Bedtime help!

I am finding that as I continue to grow my responsibilities a work (whoo!), I am more and more frequently missing my children's bedtime routine. Any advice?

Well, I'm assuming based on your question that this bothers you or your children. I think one thing to do is set an expectation that certain days you will miss bedtimes (e.g. Wednesday and thurs) and other days you won't. You can enlist your partner/spouse/care-giver to position it as "This is daddy's turn and we are taking turns because its a special time we both like having." You can also try to move around bedtime (shifting it up 30 min or 1 hour if you can get away with your children getting up earlier). Or you can just try to move the work situation so you get in earlier and come home earlier...I think there multiple ways of tackling this both on the home and work front. You may need to try a few different things to see what's realistic though and having experimented myself, I'd say you may need to try more than one approach...good luck!

I've heard that some people tell their jobs that during the hours that they are home and their kids are awake they set a do not disturb and then once they have gone to sleep they go back on to their computers to finish up work. I haven't personally tried this but it seems like a smart tactic if you can swing it with your employer.
